Christmas, Texas Style

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Texas is a wonderful place to spend the Christmas holidays. It’s warm, sunny (no need to bundle up and shovel the walkway), and festive. Cities such as Houston and Dallas have unparalleled shopping opportunities, while cities like San Antonio and Austin feature many holiday events.

There are Christmas celebrations at Sea World in San Antonio, a fabulous display of holiday lights along the Riverwalk, and 40′ tall Christmas trees in the parks. Guests of Austin TX Bed and Breakfasts may see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the Bass Concert Hall or the Nutcracker at the Michael and Susan Dell Hall on  December 17, 2010; On December 20, The Company Theatre presents Bah Humbug!, a one-man adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

In Houston, one can Skate Under Falling Snow at the ice rink in the Galleria or listen to the Houston Symphony perform Handel’s Messiah (December 21 – 23, 2010). Guests of Fredericksburg TX Bed and Breakfasts may complete any last-minute holiday shopping at the Fredericksburg Trade Days at Sunday Farms (December 17-18), which features more than 300 vendors and everything from ranch furniture to jewelry and clothing.

Bed and Breakfasts are better.

Bed and breakfasts are typically owned and operated by one or two people – often a couple. The innkeepers live and work on site. Sometimes they have help – they may hire a person to clean or help with the cooking or gardening. Often they do everything themselves. These are not lazy people. A successful bed and breakfast depends on the energy and personality of the innkeepers; guests must feel welcome, and their needs must be met. (more…)

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza at 411 Elm Street, Dallas, TX, educates visitors about President JFK. It was from the sixth floor of this building that alleged killer Lee Harvey Oswald fired the shots that killed the president as he passed through Dealey Plaza with his motorcade on November 22, 1963. Travelers to Dallas should try to make time to visit this important museum.

The Sixth Floor Museum is housed in an early 20th century warehouse, and was formerly known as the Texas School Book Depository.
