If you are an animal lover, you might want to see the unique Monastery of St. Clare Miniature Horse Farm. These nuns raise miniature horses and make handy crafts to support themselves.

Wander through the Historic District, and maybe take in a show at the Unity Theater. Look for the antique carousel that was made in 1910 specifically for a traveling carnival. One such is the Chappell Hill lavender farm, which is open March thru Nov. Cut fresh lavender and shop in a delightful smelling gift shop! While out and about, be sure to visit the Star of the Republic Museum where you will learn about the Republic of Texas, which existed as a separate, independent nation from 1836 to 1846. It's a slice of history you won't want to miss.
