Visiting Central Texas offers a tremendous range of cultural opportunities, many of them centered in and around Austin. However, the arts are fostered and celebrated throughout the region. One of the major Central Texas cultural festivals takes place annually in downtown Waco.

The Waco, TX Cultural Arts Fest is truly a cultural extravaganza with more than 50 artists and over 300 performers over the course of one weekend. More amazingly, the entire festival is free.

The juried artists’ market features original Texas artwork for sale in a wide range of media and styles. See everything from drawings, paintings, ceramics, photography, sculpture, wood crafts and fiber art.

Live performances include a full schedule of music concerts, the Wordfest/Poetry Slam, Open Mic Night, and a puppet show. The newest addition to this year’s performances is the Modern Dance Festival at Waco Convention Center’s Brazos Room, 100 Washington Avenue. Ten companies will showcase contemporary dances in a variety of styles.

There are opportunities for children and adults alike to learn and participate. Artists’ demonstrations will show the magic of a finished clay pot rising up from a spinning potters wheel. The Muralistas will create vibrant graffiti art. “Arts for All” is an especially kid-friendly way for children to get in touch with their creativity with mask-making, painting, wood sculpture and many other fun projects.

Waco’s cultural festival wouldn’t be complete without great food. Vendors specializing in local and international cuisine will make their food and drink available all weekend long.
