Blanco Texas is right in the heart of Texas Hill Country. First settled by hearty folk in the 1850s, it retains much of its historic charm today - one reason visitors are drawn here. With historic Fredericksburg just to the north and San Antonio 45 miles due south, its central location makes an ideal home base for exploring the whole region. It is a great spot for weekend getaways at Hill Country Bed and Breakfasts.
The weather is usually lovely in Blanco, and there are lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The Town Creek Nature Trail is a good place to start; it connects the historic Downtown Square to nearby Blanco State Park. Look for dinosaur tracks in the white limestone streambed about a mile upriver from the park - they are authentic!
If you enjoy wine and wine tasting, you will find numerous wineries nearby. The Hill Country has over twenty wineries open to visitation; be sure to check out the wine trails that lead wine aficionados down scenic roads to all the local wineries. Many offer tours of their wineries and provide beautiful spots to picnic.
There are a number of interesting festivals throughout the year, such as the Lavender Festival in May and the Regional Christmas Lighting Tour in November and December. The Blanco outdoor market, where you may find locally grown produce and hand crafted items, operates Springtime through Autumn.
Nearby attractions include the Lyndon B. Johnson Historic Site and the Enchanted Rock State Natural area. In short, there is so much to do in and around Blanco that you will undoubtedly find yourself returning to stay at Hill Country inns again and again.
