Texas bed and breakfast association has at least 46 members listed on our website when you search for various activities. Whether it’s an ocean, lake, river, state park, canyon or just a beautiful backyard…there’s something to do…or not do …in every region of our great state. Find the perfect lodging for your adventures. Look for many outdoor trails, biking, birding, hiking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and National/State Parks.
All of our B&B’s have outdoor areas to enjoy and would love to have you …but for this post we’ve collaborated with the inns and put together a short list that is certain to satisfy your urge to be outside. We’ve got the bed (and breakfast) so just bring your 45 (SPF) and let’s get outside!

Hill Country Region:

Crystal River Inn in San Marcos is on three acres of land about 5 miles from town, on the edge of a hill sloping down to the clear and sparkling Medina River. Winding stone steps lead down to the water, so that tubing, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are truly right on the property.

Ask about the Bandera Riverside Lodge in Bandera which is a photographer’s dream (hint: waterfall!)

The Bike Rally at Bandera is typically held the end of September and is extremely popular so make your plans way ahead of time.

Canyon Lake has so much to offer: Boating/Sailing, Water Skiing, Kayaking, Fishing, Scuba Diving, Helicopter Tours, Para-sailing, Hiking, Biking, Dining and Golf Courses. Canyon Lake is located just forty miles north of San Antonio, sixty miles south of Austin. Canyon Lake is twenty-five miles west of New Braunfels and San Marcos which is known for tubing on the rivers.
Darrin and Keith at Equinox Inn at Biscuit Hill at Canyon Lake would be very happy to assist you with making plans to enjoy the many opportunities to get wet and/or dirty. Then come back to the inn for a soak in your private hot tub while watching the sunset on the lake.

Mt. Gainor Inn is located between Dripping Springs and Wimberley. It is a short 30-minute drive southwest of Austin and 45-minute drive northwest of San Antonio. Wimberley, Blanco, Pedernales State Park, Johnson City and Fredericksburg are only 20-45 minutes away.
This is a great area for cycling enthusiasts on bicycles or motorcycles. The Inn has been highly favored in publications for it’s serenity, beauty, hospitality and uniqueness for cycling club getaways.
Laurie and Jerry will be more than happy to provide you with the 411 on all the delightful things to do in the Dripping Springs area and their website is a plethora of information.

Sandstone Street B&B in Llano offers numerous outdoor attractions in the area such as:
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, Llano River Park, Lake Buchanan and more!
Virginia will assist you with planning your outings. Make room reservations on their website and check out a full list of things to do while staying at the Sandstone St. B&B.

Central Region:

The Katy House bed and breakfast is located in Smithville which is in Bastrop County, between Austin and Houston.
The Bastrop River is great for tubing and kayaking.
Buescher State Park is a popular site for biking, birding, hiking and camping.

North Region:

Magpie Inn is located in down Mineral Wells. Let Jeremy and Magen hook you up with a fabulous adventure and vacation package. Your package might include a Rock Climbing Adventure at Mineral Wells State Park. Then enjoy a visit to the Crazy Bath House to soak your sore muscles.
Browse the Magpie website for lots more things to do or you could just plan on sleeping in and then lounging on the wraparound balcony while savoring a scrumptious chef-made (Megan!) charcuterie board and fresh, delicious coffee.

East Region:

Rosevine Inn Bed & Breakfast in Tyler
Rosevine Inn offers lots of amenities. Bert and Becca are the innkeepers and are ready to take care of y’all.
– A Barn Style Game Room with Pool Table, Darts, Hammocks, and more!
– An outdoor Hot Tub
– A New Orleans-style Courtyard complete with Fountain and Outdoor Fireplace

The quaint homes on the private street adjoining the Rosevine Inn were acquired for extended stay and expansion purposes.

Another very popular event is First Monday Trade Days in Canton, which is about 45 minutes from Tyler. Plan on spending a full weekend here.

West Region:

Alpine Bed and Breakfast is located in the heart of Big Bend National Park…need we say more?! You can spend days or even weeks out here and Sharon would love to have you!

Big Bend is home to the Rio Grande river and is without a doubt the number one choice in Texas for camping and rafting or just staring at the night sky. You might also want to visit Marfa for the famous Marfa lights and Terlingua if you’re into ghost towns.

Be sure and check the Big Bend National Parks website for park alerts.
The McDonald Observatory at Fort Davis which is about 30 minutes from Alpine. Make reservations ahead of time for their very popular Star Party.
Balmorhea State Park is in Toyahvale which is about an hour from the bed and breakfast and is a very popular location in summer where you can swim in the world’s largest spring fed pool with beautiful fish! Plan on going during the week as weekends can get very crowded!

Gulf Coast Region:

Galveston East End Guest House OR GEEGH is located in the beautiful East End Historic District and just 1/2 mile from the beach so you can have your toes in the sand in no time!
Galveston Island has 32 miles of beaches, great deep sea fishing, birding, the very popular Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier and so much more.

If your idea of being outdoors is taking a nap on your private balcony in a Victorian hammock… then listen closely …you can hear the crashing waves or the sound of horse-drawn carriages as they pass on the street below. Betsy and Ron at GEEGH will help you plan the perfect outdoor adventure.

Harborwalk Lodge is located at the entrance of Harborwalk, a luxury coastal community on West Galveston Bay. Harborwalk Lodge offers numerous amenities to enhance your stay. Drawing on the unique and natural Galveston Bay System, David will provide the outdoor enthusiast with an incredible lodging and sporting experience.

Panhandle Region:

Hotel Turkey located in Turkey Texas, which is the home of the legendary Bob Wills, King of Country Swing. The 50th Year Anniversary BOB WILLS DAY was celebrated in April of this year. Make plans to visit next year for three days of some good ol’ boot scootin’ and bbq. Be sure and visit the Bob Wills museum and monument. Tina and Pat will leave the light on for ya at the hotel.

The Walking G Guesthouse in Dimmitt is a four-room, full-service bed and breakfast that offers its guests comfortable lodging, warm hospitality, and a delicious breakfast. Dimmitt is a farming/ranching community between Amarillo and Lubbock. The area is primarily known for its cattle industry. Folks might say the town smells “like money”!
Matt and Mandy would love to host you and assist with planning your outdoor adventures at the stunning Palo Duro Canyon, which is just a short drive from the guest house.
Palo Duro is a great place to hike, bike, ride horses and photograph the beautiful vistas.
Check their website for alerts as it can be very hot or very cold, depending on the season. Make reservations to see the outdoor musical “Texas”… a memorable event!
Also just a short drive from Dimmitt is Canyon State Park which is known for
rugged scenery, hiking trails, the official Texas State Bison Herd …and don’t forget to visit Lake Theo for a refreshing dip after a day of geocaching.

Three Falls Cove in Sanford is a 43 acre serene location, nestled amongst wildflowers, rolling hills and red rock canyons.
Three Falls Cove is located 1/2 mile from Lake Meredith National Recreation Area which is a well known site for photography. The Canadian River has cut dramatic 200-foot canyons, or breaks, where people lived 13,000 years ago. Lake Meredith occupies these hidden coves and is a haven for migratory birds and other wildlife.

Rebecca and Kirk welcome you to Three Falls Cove. The fishing is great. Whether you enjoy fishing for Large Mouth Bass, Crappie (pron. Crop-pee) or huge Channel Catfish. The four acre spring fed lake is just the place. They offer private fishing (per person). Texas state license are not required.
Enjoy row boating or get your daily exercise in the paddle boats will certainly be a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Other nearby outings: Palo Duro Canyon, Caprock Canyon.

South Region:

Knolle Farm and Ranch is a working cattle ranch and artisan farm, located just outside of Corpus Christi.
